Transform your sneakers into unique works of art. This course will show you how to customize both old and new shoes with a personalized touch. You’ll get the lowdown on materials, paint, additives – even learn how to make stencils so that any creative vision can be transferred directly onto your kicks. Let this workshop help you give life to those special ideas and bring them straight off the canvas...and right onto your feet so you can start selling one-of-a kind pieces featuring your artwork!

Course Breakdown: 

Day One: This day is an exciting exploration into the creative possibilities of shoe design!

1. We’ll get to know some amazing artists transforming shoes with their artwork.

2. Learn about materials and techniques for restoring/cleaning and painting shoes. 

3. Begin to prepare, restore or clean your shoes so you can start masking them with tape.

4. Brainstorm your own ideas that fit the shape of each shoe then plan out how it'll come together.

5. We will prime up a base coat before transferring images or making stencils – ready to be part of your unique designs.

Day two: Let's dive deep into the world of shoe transformation!

1. Most of the day you’ll be transforming your shoes into works of art.

2. We’ll be tackling color theory and mixing paints, so your design is vibrant with personality. 

3. We’ll make sure to give your creations some dry-time for optimal results. 

4. We’ll also share some tips on how best to protect them after they’ve been painted. 

5. Since every custom shoe deserves its value, learn some tips on pricing and selling customization.

6. A workshop handout will review all materials needed as well as provide extra insight when time comes to work from home.

Get geared up; it's time to paint some serious magic!

Requirements: This course is for any person at any level interested in learning what materials and how to customize shoes. If you already have experience in working with paints and colors, it will be very useful when applying paint and creating your own designs. The student will need to provide their own shoes, think restore before new but if you will buy them better if they are of a white base and have empty areas from logos to paint (ex. Adidas all stars white, Nike Force 1 white, vans or many others) Some work prior to the course will be sent to student beforehand to prepare for course. 

FAQ:

Will I need to bring my own shoes? 

Yes, we will provide everything else you’ll need during the course. 

Will I need to prepare anything before the course? 

Yes, you will be sent some information on how to clean your shoes at home so they can dry up before the course. You are also encouraged to bring some ideas already in mind to paint on your kicks. You will receive an e-mail with all that information once you have signed up to the course. 

I do not know what shoe to choose, will you help us?

Of course, once we are getting closer to the date the instructor will contact you to help you choose the best shoe for the course. 

Will there be a lunch break?

Yes, this course is set as an intensive two days with loads of information with an hour of lunch break in between. 

Will I take home the materials you provide in the course?

No, the materials are for you to work during the course, although you will be given a handout with all the materials used and what you can buy to start creating your own shoes. 

I do not know how to draw, can I still join the course?

Yes, during the class the teacher will have some stencils and drawings in handy for you to use. 

Do I need to buy new shoes for the course?

Not necessarily, we encourage you to give a new life to your older shoes or choose to buy new ones.

Este taller está diseñado para ayudarte a sacar el artista que llevas dentro y dar rienda suelta a tus habilidades gráficas a través de la caricatura. Descubre los principios clave de la composición, la proporcionalidad, la exageración y la comicidad, al tiempo que aprendes técnicas para captar el parecido rápidamente. Learn the how to’s of pigments, dyes and add loads more materials like glitter, beads or dried flowers. By the end you’ll have an impressive catalogue full up unique models crafted though your own molds.  

Day One:

1. Learn who is doing what in the world of resin. Learn about creating artworks with resin and silicon molds.

2. Study the different types of silicon we will be using in the course and other special mentions. 

3. Safety techniques and tools for silicon.

4. Understanding how a mold is constructed and the mold making requirements. During this time we will evaluate the student objects for a well constructed mold. 

5. Preparation of the model to be molded.

6. Creation of different types of mold boxes. 

7. Mixing and preparing the work area for silicon preparation.

8. Pouring of liquid silicon mold.

9. Learn the benefits of a two-part silicon putty. 

10. Create the mold of the two-part silicon putty. 

11. De-molding and cleaning of mold for later work. 

Day Two: 

1. Study the different types of resin we will be using in the course and other special mentions.

2. Safety techniques and tools for resin.

3. Learn the different dying processes for resin. 

4. Preparing the mold to be casted. 

5. Mix and pour different models with different finishes. 

6. Cleaning and sanding models. 

7. Waxing and other finishes for extra polish. 

8. Review hand-out of materials and tools and extra tips when working with resin at home.

Requirements: This course is for any person initiating in this work of resin and are interested in creating small scale molds and resin models. Also to those who want to understand the properties of resin and silicon for other types of individual work. The student must bring different objects to be molded into which one of them should be of a hard consistency. 

Create samples to take home along with one finished bracelet. 

Let's discover together what wondrous transformations can occur when manipulating natural oxidation processes via heat application.

1. Learn which artists are creating artworks with patina and oxidations.

2. Study the different chemicals we will use to oxidize as well as natural alternatives. 

3. Safety techniques and tools are required when oxidizing metal .

4. We will start by cleaning and preparing the copper pieces for oxidation. 

5. Create a catalogue of the four different oxidation combinations. 

6. Prepare a metal bracelet to oxidize to your preferred finish. 

7. Cleaning of pieces after oxidation. 

8. Learn the different varnishes used to protect your pieces. 

9. Learn how to use natural oxidation and cold patinas to bring metal art pieces to life. 

10. Review essential handouts of tools and materials, and where you can buy them to start creating at home.

Requirements: This course is for any person at any level interested in creating patinas in metal. Must be 18+ over. 

This course will provide you a foundation in basic metalworking techniques, teaching how to saw, drill holes, file & sand for smooth surfaces as well as shape wires and craft textures using hammers.  

1. Learn about the work of some of the top artistic jewelers that use metal in their pieces.

2. Discuss the properties of copper and brass. 

3. Begin sawing exercises that are built to learn the ins and outs of jewelers saw. Also learn its safety techniques.

4. Start sketching your first idea or choose one from the class catalogue. 

5. Learn how to place your images onto metal and prepare it for sawing. 

6. Learn how to drill holes in metal depending to metal thickness and saw blade size. 

7. Filing and sanding your artwork.

8. Texturize or polish your pieces to finish them. 

9. Create your very own earrings by bending and modeling metal wire using pliers and hammers. 

10. Varnish your piece (if necessary) to protect it from the environment. 

11. Assemble your piece with hooks, rings, leather and more to be worn or hanged. 

12. Review essential handouts of tools and where you can buy them to start creating at home.

Requirements: This course is for metal enthusiasts that want to start exploring this material and/or those who want to begin creating metal jewelry. Initiates level.

In this workshop you will learn to sculpt with clay, use papier-mâché to achieve a porcelain finish and painting techniques. Mask symbolism and its cultural importance throughout the ages will also be explored, as well as presentation tips for displaying the finished artwork.

Day One:

1. Will discuss how artists are using masks representation today. 

2. Learn how masks have excited throughout history and its significance in culture. 

3. Historical moments where masks become an important icon. 

4. Study the materials that were commonly used in the creation of masks.

5. Research and time to find inspiration for mask creation.

6. Sketching and ideas are created with cultural significance. 

Day Two: 

1.  Introduction to clay modeling tools. 

2. Creation of the soul of the mask to facilitate the sculpting process. 

3. Time for mask sculpting. Process of wrapping and preparing the model for papier-mâché

4. Best process for papier-mâché and applying to model. 

Day Three:

1. Removal of mask from model and cleaning process. 

2. Application of more coats of papier-mâché. 

3. Sanding and finishing of mask for paint application. 

Day Four: 

1. Study the different styles of paint application to add to masks. 

2. Creative time to apply different painting techniques to the artwork. 

3. The significance of symbols in masks and how can they change the interpretation of the student mask. 

4. Finishes and hanging processes of mask.

MIXED MEDIA DOLL SCULPTURE

DESCRIPTION: 

In this Three-day workshop, students will learn to use a combination of recycling materials, StoneArt Paste, acrylic paints, markers, paper, threads and found objects etc., to create their own Mixed Media Doll sculpture. Topics like design, composition and structure construction will be discussed.

Supplies are included.  

No sculpture/drawing/painting experience necessary.

DESCRIPCIÓN:

En este taller de tres días, los estudiantes aprenderán a usar una combinación de materiales reciclados, pasta StoneArt, pinturas acrílicas, marcadores, papel, hilos y objetos encontrados, etc., para crear su propia escultura de muñeca de medios mixtos. Se discutirán temas como diseño, composición y construcción de estructuras.

Los suministros están incluidos.

No se necesita experiencia en escultura/dibujo/pintura.

Aprende las sutiles diferencias entre la arcilla horneada y la arcilla seca al aire, así como también cómo hacer moldes de yeso que puedes reutilizar para crear un número infinito de piezas en proyectos futuros.

Este curso complementa el Esmaltado de Cerámica para Principiantes, donde William te enseña los conceptos básicos para decorar y esmaltar tus piezas de cerámica.
