This course is perfect for those looking to really jump deep into the mask-making traditions of our world and discover its undeniable beauty for themselves!
In this workshop you will learn to sculpt with clay, use papier-mâché to achieve a porcelain finish and painting techniques. Mask symbolism and its cultural importance throughout the ages will also be explored, as well as presentation tips for displaying the finished artwork.
Day One:
1. Will discuss how artists are using masks representation today.
2. Learn how masks have excited throughout history and its significance in culture.
3. Historical moments where masks become an important icon.
4. Study the materials that were commonly used in the creation of masks.
5. Research and time to find inspiration for mask creation.
6. Sketching and ideas are created with cultural significance.
Day Two:
1. Introduction to clay modeling tools.
2. Creation of the soul of the mask to facilitate the sculpting process.
3. Time for mask sculpting. Process of wrapping and preparing the model for papier-mâché
4. Best process for papier-mâché and applying to model.
Day Three:
1. Removal of mask from model and cleaning process.
2. Application of more coats of papier-mâché.
3. Sanding and finishing of mask for paint application.
Day Four:
1. Study the different styles of paint application to add to masks.
2. Creative time to apply different painting techniques to the artwork.
3. The significance of symbols in masks and how can they change the interpretation of the student mask.
4. Finishes and hanging processes of mask.

Requirements: This course is for any person at any level.
Materials:The student will need to bring tissue paper.
All other materials are included.
Any cancellation or withdrawal must be announced 30 days prior to the workshop.
