Six terms. Three programs. One unbroken progression from your first line to your last brushstroke.
MIFA's Atelier curriculum is built on the principle that mastery is not taught — it is developed, slowly and deliberately, through daily practice and direct observation. Every term builds on the last. Every exercise prepares you for the next challenge.
What makes the atelier method unique is not just the curriculum — it is the environment. Beginners and advanced students share the same studio space. You learn from watching. From being watched. From the conversations that happen between an instructor correcting a drawing three feet away from you and the painter next to you solving a problem you haven't encountered yet.
This is how the Old Masters learned. It is how we teach.

Before color. Before paint. Before the figure. There is drawing — and this is where it begins.
This program takes you through the complete foundation of classical draftsmanship: from geometric forms and value scale to live figure drawing with a nude model. Every exercise builds on the last. By the time you finish, you will draw with accuracy, confidence, and a structural understanding of form that transforms everything you make afterward.
What you will study:
Geometric forms · Value scale · Tone relationships · Bargue drawing plates · Old Master drawing copy · Cast drawing in charcoal · Life drawing · Proportion, form & depth · Figure drawing with live model

Drawing mastered. Now we paint.
This program bridges your drawing foundation into oil painting. You will learn to see and mix color, control temperature and atmosphere, and move progressively through grisaille, limited palette, and full palette techniques. Advanced figure drawing, anatomy, and perspective are integrated throughout — ensuring that your painting is always rooted in solid structural understanding.
What you will study:
Color theory & mixing · Temperature & atmosphere · Grisaille technique · Limited palette · Advanced figure drawing · Anatomy & perspective · Plaster cast painting · Still life · Figure painting
