Create Without Limits: MIFA's Mixed Media Program

MIFA's Mixed Media Program is designed to help students explore a wide range of concepts in modern and contemporary art, offering them the tools to develop their unique artistic voices.

MIFA's Mixed Media Full Program

Technical Approach:

  • Explore diverse art-making techniques that challenge both form and content
  • Combine traditional and new materials for individual creative exploration
  • Develop technical skill alongside personal artistic growth
  • Learn contemporary material techniques as part of a well-rounded foundation


Course Objectives:

By the end of the program, students will:

  1. Work with a wide range of mixed media materials to discover new forms of expression
  2. Understand mixed media practices in historical context through artist studies
  3. Develop their own visual vocabulary through hands-on studio assignments
  4. Build a cohesive visual language and a unified body of work
  5. Keep a working collection of references, drawings, and notes exploring material transformation
  6. Present a finished, cohesive body of work at the end of the course

Meet the Instructor: Sonia Hidalgo

About The Instructor

Sonia Hidalgo is a Venezuelan-born painter exploring symbolism, mysticism, and spiritual belief through fine art. She holds a B.F.A. from Universidad Católica Cecilio Acosta and has studied under master painters Abdón J. Romero, Daniel Gerhartz, Daniel Graves, and Morgan Weistling.

Based in Miami for over two decades, Sonia has dedicated h

Sonia Hidalgo is a Venezuelan-born painter exploring symbolism, mysticism, and spiritual belief through fine art. She holds a B.F.A. from Universidad Católica Cecilio Acosta and has studied under master painters Abdón J. Romero, Daniel Gerhartz, Daniel Graves, and Morgan Weistling.

Based in Miami for over two decades, Sonia has dedicated her career to fine art instruction, serving since March 2020 as Director and Instructor of MIFA's Mixed Media Program.
