OPEN CALL 2027

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

The proposal must be submitted as a single PDF document, organized in the following order:

1. GENERAL INFORMATION

• Provisional title of the project
• Name of the artist, curator, collective, or organization
• City and country of residence
• Email address
• Phone number
• Website
• Instagram or other professional networks
• Preferred gallery space or spaces
• Periods in 2027 during which the project could be presented
• Name of the person responsible for communication and production

2. PROJECT SUMMARY

A text of 150 to 250 words clearly explaining:

• What the exhibition consists of
• Its central theme or question
• The experience it proposes for the audience
• Why the project is relevant to MIFA

3. CURATORIAL OR CONCEPTUAL TEXT

A text of 500 to 800 words developing:

• The conceptual framework of the project
• Its main lines of inquiry
• The relationship between the works
• Its connection to contemporary debates
• The relationship of the project to the exhibition space
• The outcomes or experiences expected to be produced

For solo exhibitions, an expanded artist statement may be submitted.

For group exhibitions, a curatorial text must be included that clearly explains the selection criteria and the relationship between the participants.

4. PARTICIPANT INFORMATION

For each artist or curator included in the proposal:

• Full name
• City and country of residence
• Biography of up to 200 words
• Artistic or curatorial CV
• Website
• Professional networks

5. PROPOSED WORKS

Include between 8 and 20 representative images of the project.
Each image must be accompanied by:

• Name of the artist
• Title of the work
• Year
• Technique and materials
• Dimensions
• Sale price, when applicable
• Availability status
• Special installation requirements

When works have not yet been produced, the following may be submitted:

• Sketches
• Plans
• Renders
• Models
• Visual references
• Technical diagrams
• Images of previous related works

The documentation must allow the selection committee to clearly understand the scale, materiality, and intention of the project.

6. EXHIBITION PLAN

The proposal must indicate:

• Requested gallery space or spaces
• Preliminary layout of the works
• Approximate number of pieces
• Minimum space requirements
• Lighting needs
• Audiovisual or electrical equipment
• Pedestals, display cases, or special structures
• Installation method
• Security or conservation requirements
• Estimated installation time
• Estimated deinstallation time

Applicants are encouraged to consult the MIFA floor plan before developing the spatial proposal.

7. BUDGET AND PRODUCTION PLAN

Submit an estimated budget identifying:

• Production of works
• Framing
• Printing of texts and labels
• Transportation
• Packing and crating
• Installation
• Technical equipment
• Specialized personnel
• Insurance, when applicable
• Additional catering
• Public programs
• Other exhibition-related expenses

A brief explanation of how the project will be financed must also be included.

8. PUBLIC PROGRAM

Applicants are invited to propose one or more complementary activities:

• Artist talk
• Curatorial walkthrough
• Workshop
• Performance
• Screening
• Reading
• Sound activation
• Educational program
• Community gathering
• Interdisciplinary presentation

All activities are subject to approval, space availability, and prior coordination with MIFA.

SELECTION PROCESS

Proposals will be reviewed by MIFA's Artistic Director and the curatorial committee designated by MIFA.

The process will take place in three stages:

STAGE ONE: PROPOSAL REVIEW

The artistic and curatorial quality of each project will be evaluated, along with the clarity and quality of the submitted documentation.

STAGE TWO: SHORTLISTING AND INTERVIEWS

Shortlisted projects will be invited to an interview to discuss:

• The exhibition concept
• The proposed works
• The requested gallery space
• The budget
• Production
• Installation
• The calendar
• The responsibilities of each party

The interview does not constitute final acceptance.

STAGE THREE: SELECTION AND SPACE ASSIGNMENT

Following the interviews, MIFA will determine which projects will be included in the 2027 program and will make a preliminary assignment of gallery spaces and periods.

Participation will be confirmed once the selected project:

• Formally accepts the terms and conditions
• Signs the exhibition agreement
• Makes the corresponding payment to reserve the gallery space
• Or receives written approval for exceptional financial support

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

1. Artistic and curatorial quality
2. Conceptual clarity and depth
3. Relevance within contemporary art
4. Originality of the inquiry
5. Coherence between the concept and the works
6. Relationship to the requested gallery space
7. Technical feasibility
8. Financial feasibility
9. Quality of the submitted documentation
10. Capacity to meet the calendar requirements
11. Potential for dialogue with the audience
12. Contribution to a plural, critical, and interdisciplinary program

MIFA may request additional information, curatorial modifications, a reduction in the number of works, technical changes, or adaptation of the proposal to a different gallery space.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF SELECTED PROJECTS

Selected artists, curators, or collectives must:

• Sign the exhibition agreement
• Complete all payments within the agreed dates
• Produce and finalize the works
• Cover the costs of packing, transportation, delivery, and collection
• Arrange insurance when deemed necessary
• Submit images, biographies, texts, and technical sheets within the established calendar
• Provide a final list of works
• Provide a price list when works are available for sale
• Design and produce wall labels and exhibition texts following MIFA's guidelines
• Carry out or finance installation and deinstallation
• Provide technical and audiovisual equipment
• Hire professional art handlers when the complexity of the project requires it
• Actively participate in the promotion of the exhibition
• Be available for agreed public programs and activities
• Remove all works and materials within the established dates
• Leave the gallery space clean and in the same condition in which it was received
• Repair and repaint walls when the installation has required authorized perforations or modifications

Failure to meet these responsibilities may result in the modification or cancellation of the project.

GENERAL INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

• MIFA's rail system must be used whenever technically possible
• Ceilings, floors, windows, doors, baseboards, or electrical systems may not be drilled, painted, or altered without written authorization
• Any wall modifications must be approved in advance
• Walls that have been altered must be repaired and repainted after deinstallation
• Suspended, electrical, lighting, sound, or structural installations require prior approval
• Projects involving organic materials, liquids, fire, smoke, odors, soil, sand, plants, significant weight, or direct audience participation must declare this in the proposal
• All works must arrive properly labeled and identified
• Installation and deinstallation schedules must be coordinated with the MIFA team
• Works will not be received outside the agreed dates without prior authorization
• Circulation routes, exits, and access points must remain clear at all times
• MIFA may request modifications when a work poses a risk to the public, the building, or 
• other exhibitions

EXHIBITION PERIOD

January – December 2027

The specific dates for installation, opening, duration, and deinstallation will be established in the agreement for each project.

Projects that do not confirm their participation by November 30 may forfeit their assigned gallery space and period.

EXCEPTIONAL FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION

MIFA recognizes that a proposal of high artistic value is not always accompanied by the financial resources needed to cover the participation fee.

When an artist, curator, or collective is unable to cover the participation fee in full or in part, they must submit — alongside their exhibition proposal — a formal letter addressed to MIFA's Artistic Director.

The letter must explain:

• The applicant's financial situation
• The reasons why they are unable to cover the established fee
• The amount they would be able to contribute, when applicable
• Any support, partnerships, or in-kind contributions they could offer
• The importance of the exhibition for their artistic or professional development

The financial request will be evaluated confidentially and separately from the initial curatorial review.

Depending on its resources and operational capacity, MIFA may consider:

• A special payment plan
• A partial reduction
• A service exchange
• An institutional collaboration
• An in-kind contribution
• In exceptional cases, a partial or full waiver

Submitting the letter does not guarantee approval of financial support.

Any exception will depend on:

• The quality and relevance of the project
• Calendar availability
• MIFA's operational resources
• The capacity to sustain the exhibition without compromising the collective functioning of the institution

MIFA does not currently have permanent sponsors or operating grants to cover selected exhibitions. The continuity of the space depends on the shared responsibility of the institution, the artists, the curators, and the community that makes each project possible.

COPYRIGHT AND IMAGE RIGHTS

By submitting a proposal, applicants confirm that they hold the necessary rights over all works, photographs, texts, and materials included.

Selected projects will authorize MIFA to use images, videos, texts, and exhibition documentation for the purposes of:

• Communications
• Press
• Archiving
• Education
• Institutional promotion
• Digital or print publications related to the program

MIFA will credit all authors accordingly.

The intellectual property of the works will remain at all times with their respective authors.

• Proposals submitted only via Instagram or social media
• Links to websites without the required PDF document
• Incomplete documents
• Proposals without images or visual references
• Projects received after the deadline
• Requests for financial support submitted after the application

MIFA invites artists and curators to imagine rigorous, critical exhibitions that are open to dialogue.

We are looking for projects capable of activating our spaces, expanding conversations, and contributing to an independent, inclusive, and vibrant cultural ecosystem.
