ADVANCED ABSTRACT PAINTING COURSE

 Abstract painting is a way to express and discover your inner self. This workshop is a continuation of part I and II & III but even students who did not take these courses can start in part IV. 

This course is designed for advanced students who want to explore painting with acrylic and/or oil paint to create abstract works of art. 

Students will learn a series of exercises and technical skills to develop spontaneity and expressiveness to capture composition, form, light, volume, and movement on the canvas. 

Students will make a minimum of 12 painting exercises to guide them to learn abstract painting methods, techniques, and image structures to discover direct ways of exploring several art materials and their applications.

In this class, students will work with the right side of their brain, very intuitively, and each activity will be different for every person. It will also be very interactive. In the critiques, seeing how the other students are resolving their paintings, will help all students learn.

The exercises are experimental enough to push students’ spontaneity and creativity yet focused on providing clear technical information. Abstract Painting is not simply messing about with paint but rather an optimal way to express gestures, emotions, fleeting moments, and subtleties for visual interpretation.

Students will be evaluated during each class while they are painting with individual instruction and demonstrations based on how they’re performing the exercises. Every time they finish a painting, there is an evaluation and final critique to raise awareness of all learned techniques and approaches, proper execution, and areas to improve and modify to improve each painting.

The class meets virtually once a week for 12 consecutive weeks.

Students will complete several paintings during this session.
